My first exposure to CrossFit was on Memorial Day in 2017 when my brother-in-law invited me to a workout called, “The Murph.” Little did I know how difficult that workout would be! I was instantly hooked. Shortly after that, I signed up at a local CrossFit gym here in the Twin Cities. In 2019, I completed the CF-L1 and began coaching.
I grew up in rural Iowa and have always enjoyed sports, especially baseball, both as a player and coach. I’m naturally a competitive person. One of the things I love about CrossFit is that you can always improve and challenge yourself to be better. Workouts aren’t mundane and repetitive, because at its core, CrossFit is about “constantly varied functional movements.”
I believe pursuing “health” is much more holistic than just physical fitness. Health includes the physical, mental, emotional, relational and spiritual aspects of our lives. But, I love how pushing ourselves in physical fitness can impact other areas of life, like mental health, mental toughness and even resilience.
Outside of the gym, I serve as the Lead Pastor of Antioch Community Church in Minneapolis. In my free time I enjoy outdoor activities, traveling and spending time with my family. I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart, Sara, since 1999. We have two amazing children who are also involved in CrossFit, Ava and Luke.
